eDiets Week 6 Day 3 - Using eDiets Tracking System

As a follow up to my "find carrots for yourself" entry earlier this week, I thought I would explore the eDiets tracking system for you in more depth.  My personal approach to this has been on the lazy side because I track my weight and workout in an Excel sheet and then stick to somewhat simple plans offered up by eDiets for my meals - so there is not too much to worry about for me when it comes to counting every calorie.  Also, since I have spent some time in my college years tracking my diet very closely, I have a pretty good handle of the nutrition and calories involved in the food I eat.  That being said, tracking your meals on the site can only help.

The Good:  The tool is simple and you can look up just about any food and portion size and the tool will capture not only your calories, but your essential vitamin and mineral intake too.  This can be broken down in advance to help you plan your meals or afterwards to help you track your progress.

The Bad:  The one thing the plan lacks directly online is that after it sums up all of your meals for the day, it does not highlight what you did well or did poorly in terms of your specific diet plan.  Also, it give a percentage comparison to a 2000 calorie diet.  This is useful, but not entirely effective because most people on weight loss plans are on diets much less than 2000 calories per day.  For example, my plan is 1500 or so.  However, eDiets does offer consultation by phone with nutrition specialists to help you get to your weight loss goals.  I have not tried this service yet.  If you have tried it, leave a comment for me and tell me about your experience with it.
