eDiets Week 8 Day 3 - We're Moving On Up..(and not to the East Side)

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Fri, 05/19/2006 - 12:37am.

I weighed in Monday after I wrote for the day and came out 1 pound higher than last week - now 175lbs.  This is understandable since I had pizza for dinner and was not overly active all weekend, but it is manageable.

I mentioned last week that I plan on doing an underwater body fat test when I get down to 167 pounds, but I have not given any details behind why I want to use this method versus other body composition measurements.  Let me clarify that I am not a doctor or a scientist and that most of my opinion on this subject is from general research that I have come across over the years.  It's important to know that there are many methods for measuring body composition.  The most popular, standing on a scale, is good for a general guideline, but is really only half of the equation.  One person may look "fat" while another looks great at the same weight and height.  The "big boned" argument only has so much merit as bone does not very in weight that much from person to person.  People use "weight" because it is simply the easiest to measure.

eDiets Week 8 Day 1 - The Occupational Hazard

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Tue, 05/16/2006 - 12:23am.

While I have done pretty well in my ediets plan so far, the rest of this week will be a big challenge.  I will be out with clients to nice restaurants and events.  This has three major inherent problems: 1. the food is paid for by my company so there is no financial guilt on my part for having an extra beer or appetizer, 2. there is a considerable amount of ego involved in business which means that you can't be "the only guy drinking water," 3. the meetings take up my normal workout time at lunch, 4. I will generally be eating and drinking later into the night, 5.  my positive momentum can turn to guilt and require some comfort foods very easily if I don't handle it well.

eDiets Week 7 Day 5 - Tired and Holding

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Sat, 05/13/2006 - 12:25am.

I made it through another week, but I limped through the end.  My workout schedule got disrupted a bit and I forgot to weigh in on Friday.  I have also been poor about logging my weight onto the eDiets website to get new plans.  There is a definite lull going on with my diet and my girlfriend seems to be feeling the same way.  Getting to the half way point was so inspiring, but now the second half of my weight loss seems far far away and I am not particularly excited about my workouts right now.

On a happier note...lets talk about something that is inspiring.  My end goal is to be 167 pounds and then to get a full physical including an underwater body fat test.  This will allow me to decide whether I should lose some more or not, how to change my diet to put on more muscle safely, and make sure I am in good health overall before I do any more changing in general.  I need ideas for my reward for myself when I hit the end weight goal.  My current list includes: 1.

eDiets Week 7 Day 2 - 9 (Actually 10) Pounds Gone!

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Tue, 05/09/2006 - 6:19pm.

I am down to 174 today after my workout.  My diet officially started at 183 pounds, but I was up to 184 on the first day of the plan before it had time to take affect.  Basically, I have lost 10 pounds in six and a half weeks.  All this with no gimmick weight loss pills or 5 hour marathon workouts.  My lifestyle has changed moderately, but for the better.

Today is all about celebrating and racapping my success so here they are:  1. I have had no soda, coffee, or tea in over 4 months, 2. I have lost 10 pounds total and have passed the half-way mark for my total weight loss plan, 3.

eDiets Week 7 Day 1 - Rollin...Rollin..Rollin Down The (Weight Loss) River

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Mon, 05/08/2006 - 6:10pm.

This past weekend I didn't do alot, but I did get active on both Saturday and Sunday by walking and riding my bike.  When I woke up this morning I thought that I might have gone back up after a great milestone of hitting my halfway goal last week.  My meals this weekend included such healthy delights as little hotdogs in crecent rolls.  However, I did drink a ton of water and did not eat too large of portions.  Surprisingly, my pre-workout weight today was 174.75 and my post workout weight was 174.5.  This means that I have made it past the halfway mark and I am not going back!

eDiets Week 6 Day 4 - HALF WAY AT LAST!

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Thu, 05/04/2006 - 5:49pm.

In the last three weeks I have been trying some different things to kick up my weight loss again as I have been hovering just above 175lbs (my halfway goal to losing 16 pounds: 183-16= 167lbs).  While I have been getting stronger as evidenced by my improved weight lifting and cardio routines, I have not been losing the weight I need to lose to stay on pace.  My original 2 pounds lost per week plan had me at 170 this week.  That goal is pretty much gone as it is not healthy to lose weight too fast.

The eDiets plan is good about re-setting your plan to be reasonable based on how you are doing and how you feel.  For example, it asks your last weigh in weight and then offers you the chance to increase or decrease your calorie intake based on your hunger or energy level.  My original plan was somewhat agressive in that I said that I am "lightly" active - ie I do some yardwork or walk sometimes.  Of course, this is not true as I have been working out somewhat more than lightly on a regular basis during this diet and hopefully ongoing.  Also, I do feel hungry sometimes, but rather than say "give me more calories," I have gone with other ways of curbing hunger like drinking plenty of water, spacing out meals with light, healthy snacks (like a piece of fruit), or switching my activity for 10 minutes to see if I am only hungry due to being bored.

eDiets Week 6 Day 1 - Little Carrots - Not To Eat

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Mon, 05/01/2006 - 5:14pm.

It's Monday and I have spent some time thinking about what I can do to reinvigorate my weight loss in a healthy way.  My conclusion is a little off the wall and not directly attributable to the eDiets plan, but I think it all works together in some way.  As you know if you are reading this continuous diet testimony of mine, I spend time writing about my diet plan, my goals, and my workout routine.  Coincidentally or not, when I write about my progress or lack there of, I get more focused and lose more weight.  Some of you may say that I only write when I have something good to talk about - and that may be somewhat true.  However, writing about my diet correlates with me losing more weight, then I have to do it more often.

eDiets Week 5 Day 5 - Quarter Pound or Quarter Pounder?

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Fri, 04/28/2006 - 4:51pm.

My last couple of entries have been full of clues into my background so that you can understand my psychology and how it relates to my diet.  As you know by now, I am a very motivated and focused person.  Goal setting is not an option, but a way of life for me.  Like anyone, I get very tired and burn out on things that are not so fun - like trying to lose weight.  This week has been a little rough for me because I have been pretty tired from long hours at work.  The weight loss has slowed.  The initial shock that the human body goes through when it does something new has now passed and I have fallen into a routine.

eDiets Week 5 Day 3 - What Works For Me..Will It Work For You?

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 1:30pm.

In a previous entry I mentioned that I track my diet and workout progress in an Excel.  This system seems to be working well for me.  Originally, I did not intend to work "offline" on tracking my diet, but I set up the Excel sheet before I found the eDiets plan.  Since I know many of you are watching me as an example on how to lose weight or how NOT to lose weight.  My victories are your victories and my defeats are well...still your victories because you get to learn from them.  With this in mind, I feel a responsibility to you to give a little background on myself and my knowledge of nutrition and exercise.

eDiets Week 5 Day 1 - Can I get over the hump?

Submitted by Richat35 Healthyat85 on Mon, 04/24/2006 - 11:53am.

My progressive pattern of weight loss has slowed down a bit, but I am feeling and looking better.  Overall, I am stronger from working out consistently and I feel like I am more in balance when I am playing softball (for example, I play better defense).  My routine is doable, but I have noticed that I get a little tired and hungry sometimes throughout the day.  Soda, coffee, and tea are still off my personal plan and I have stuck to it 100% in that realm.
My consistency with using the eDiets website to help me track things has been poor.  According to the plan, I should weigh in and check in every week, but I haven't officially "checked in" since the first week.  In general, I understand what the diet is suggesting and up to this point have not seen any reason to check in more often for more tips since I have a fairly general plan as it is.  However, I have been following many of the recipe's and I have my own Excel tracking sheet of my weight and workout progress.  This works great because I work in Excel alot as part of my job and keeps my diet in front of me.  I will go into more detail about this another day.
