Day 2- Sugar detox

The first wave of this diet (10 days) is to eliminate your dependency on sugar by substituting healthy grains, veggies, and lean meats in addition to decreasing the intake of processed foods.  I managed to follow the diet plan for breakfast: two eggs cooked with virgin olive oil instead of butter.  However, my atrocious cooking skills were again demonstrated as I burnt the eggs and turned sunny-side up into a fluffy yellow mess.  It tasted fine though.  A good thing about this diet is that you can have unlimited “flavor boosters.”  Tabasco really helped those eggs.  Beverages are also unlimited within reason.  So far I was doing great.  The Sonoma diet does allow coffee.  I don’t drink coffee but am addicted to Dr. Pepper.  I figured since it allowed caffeine, I could have my morning drink and simply limit myself to one, instead of the usual 3 daily Dr. Peppers.  That still decreases my sugar intake- just not going cold turkey.  One big potential problem I see with me on this particular diet is that the Sonoma Diet has a low-dairy emphasis.  I am a cheese lover.  I adore all kinds of cheese- except brie.  Brie is weird.  I could eat non-brie cheese all day.  I’m now substituting my suggested afternoon snack of almonds with Goldfish.  This satisfies my cheese button, plus Goldfish were in the office kitchen, and almonds are nowhere to be found.  Also, I don’t really like almonds.  I do love Goldfish.  Who doesn’t adore a snack that smiles back at you?

Dinner tonight will be interesting considering I haven’t gone grocery shopping yet for this diet.  Wave 1 dinners are supposed to be mostly veggies then protein and grains.  This part will be a learning experience for me.  I’m the kind that arrives home after work then chooses dinner based on what’s in the fridge.  I also lack the gene that tells you “In one hour, you might be hungry so start preparing food.”  I will be completely fine then suddenly, “I’m hungry!  Eat now!”  Again, this explains why I am so handy with the microwave.
