Day 47: Old Habits Die Hard

After work, I ended up going over to my parent’s house for dinner.  We grilled hot dogs and had waffle fries while watching a movie.  During this, I realized how the foods I now consume have slowly changed as compared to what I was raised on.  My parents and brother still eat the same way: fast food for dinner a few times each week, soda with every meal, always have ice cream/cookies/cake for dessert.  Being at my old house, it was very easy to revert back to my old ways, not because I was hungrier, but it was an old pattern.  My parents instinctively handed me a soft drink, but I put it back and got water.  My Dad commented on this and decided to get water himself.

At our last grocery trip, my husband laughed at everything we placed on the conveyor belt.  It was all healthier foods: fuits, vegetables, cottage cheese, low fat this/that.  This was a first for us.  We are both making a conscious effort to eat more foods that are not heavily processed.  I still doubt that I could ever give up my Macaroni & Cheese, but I have stepped up my healthy food intake in a way to combat this.  At least, that is my rationalization.
