Day 50: Sloooow Down

My Sonoma Diet email today talked about slowing down when I eat in order to avoid overeating and to really savor my food.  It encourages me to eat at least one meal each day at the table.  I’ll admit that I cannot remember the last time I ate a meal at my dining room table.  We always eat on the couch using the coffee table as the kitchen table and usually watch TV as we eat.  Also, our dining room table is covered with stuff that needs to be thrown away or put up.  The good news is that we usually eat dinner rather slowly since we are relaxing after work.  Breakfast is another story however.

My morning routine is fairly constant.  I get up around 7am, take a shower if I didn’t the night before, turn on the TV to the local news, start breakfast, go to my closet and get dressed, eat breakfast on the couch while watching the news, brush teeth, do makeup/hair, leave by 8:15.  My breakfast is rushed because I need to be finished eating by 8am or this puts me behind schedule.  I find that some mornings, I eat an entire bowl of food when I normally only eat half.  This is because I’m rushed and not paying attention to what I’m doing.  I feel stuffed after this- not a great way to start the day.  I’m trying to consciously pay more attention to how much I’m consuming at breakfast.
