Day 76: Healthy Snacking

On the food frontier, I have discovered a healthier snacking option as well: dried fruits.  My local store sells these in resealable packages.  My favorites are dried mango and apricots.  I keep these in my desk at work as an alternative to my coveted Goldfish.  When food shopping, I have become much more savy at looking not only at nutrition labels but at the ingredients.  I learned that the first ingredient listed is the biggest in quantity.  Also, sugar comes in other forms like corn syrup, fructose, sweetener, etc.  Another trick I learned is to avoid packaging that advertises “Enriched with whole grain” or something similar.  I check the ingredients and learn that “whole grain” is the last ingredient listed so there is little/no nutritional value from this even though the package advertises it.
