Day 133: Goal: Wear Dryer-Fresh Jeans

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 09/06/2006 - 6:26pm.

I have almost given up on stepping on the scale.  I eat very healthy for a few days thanks to the Sonoma Diet AND workout only to find my weight has increased.  My husband encourages me by saying muscle weighs more than fat.  I know this, but I figured if all the fat went away, it would still be less.  I keep telling myself that right now it is more important how I look than how much I actually weigh.  I want to be able to put on my jeans as soon as they come out of the dryer without straining to zip and button them.  I also want to get rid of the muffin-top that is created by this.  Sure, they expand during the day & fit comfortably, but I want them to fit the first time I put them on.

Day 132: Eating better on the holiday weekend

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 09/05/2006 - 6:26pm.

I worked out again today.  I especially needed this after a long holiday filled with Mexican food.  I tried again to conscioulsy think about my Sonoma Diet and watch my portion sizes.  I think I did well with this.  I found that especially for queso (my weakness), it really helps if I first pour a small amount into a little bowl.  I only eat the amount in the small bowl and that’s it.  People were surprised when I refused more queso.  I also had fajitas for 3 meals this weekend.  I limited the sour cream and increased the pico de gallo.  Sonoma Diet encourages enhacing meals with spice so I think the pico counted.

Day 127: Cruise in one month. Eek!

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 08/31/2006 - 2:51pm.

It hit me yesterday that our cruise is in exactly one month.  While I do look thinner (yea!), my weight has fluctuated.  Some days the scale says I have lost several pounds, but the next morning, I’m right back up there.  As a result, I am consciously paying attention to what I eat and how it lines up with the Sonoma Diet.

Day 126: Baseball Food

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 08/30/2006 - 2:50pm.

Last night, my husband and I went to a local minor league baseball game.  For the first time in months, the temperature wasn’t triple digits so it was a lovely evening.  I admit that I again strayed from my Sonoma Diet by munching on one hot dog and a few chips with some dip.  I will also admit that I did not feel guilty about this.  As I previously mentioned, I associate some events with particular foods.  In this case, baseball game means hot dogs.  I did skip dessert and watched my portion sizes so I didn’t pig out too much.

Day 125: Country Cooking v. Modern Work

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 2:49pm.

During the visit to my mother-in-law’s house, I was reminded about how I used to eat.  She lives in the country and is accustomed to “country cooking.”  Country cooking is not in line with the Sonoma Diet by any means.  This cooking method usually involves deep frying, huge poritons, and lots of added fats via butter, sour cream, sauces, etc.  It also ALWAYS involves dessert after meals.  When talking with my husband and his mom, I discovered that big helpings of dessert (usually pecan pie with ice cream) were commonplace and vegetables were quite rare.  If veggies were present, it usually was fried okra.  Sweets for breakfast were acceptable.

Day 124: Controversial Post: Restaurants & People

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 08/28/2006 - 2:49pm.

This past weekend, we went to visit my mother-in-law in the Houston area.  For lunch, we stopped at a local Tex-Mex restaurant.  While they did have a few salads on the menu, I really wanted my cheese enchiladas.  (For you Yankees, this is a tortilla with cheese inside, wrapped, and covered in melted cheese).  Sorry Sonoma Diet.  I figured that since I was having water and consciously not snacking on the chips and salsa, it would be ok.  My food arrived, and I began eating small bites since it was so hot.  While waiting for my entree to cool, I started people watching and became horrified.

Day 120: Working out gets easier with time

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 08/24/2006 - 2:48pm.

A few days ago, I decided to really stick to my exercise program.  Our office has a free workout room that I do not take advantage of.  I decided that I will exercise after work since there are less people (lunch time is very crowded).  Plus, I can go directly home after this and shower.  I started on the treadmill.  I had every intention of doing some weights, but since there were several guys in there, I felt intimidated.  I didn’t know exactly how to work all the equipment (except the treadmill), so I just stuck with that for my first gym trip.

Day 118: Broccoli I actually like

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 08/22/2006 - 2:48pm.

Once again, we were back at my parents house to do touch-ups on the painting.  My husband made dinner.  He taught my mom to use the Sonoma Diet gem, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to cook brocoli with sliced onions in a saute pan.  As somebody who does not prefer brocoli, this was actually very tasty. This is also good since the Sonoma Diet really encourages me to eat broccoli.  This green vegetable is full of good nutrients to help me lose weight.  I used to like broccoli as a child (one of the few veggies I would eat), but recently, it makes me gag.

Day 117: Family eating healthier

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 08/21/2006 - 2:47pm.

We spent the entire weekend helping my parents paint two rooms in the house.  Their house had flooded a few weeks back, and we were close to being finished with the remodeling.  After hours of painting, my mom made dinner.  Normally, my family does not eat very healthy, much less eat anything advocated by the Sonoma Diet.  Growing up, I would have a bowl of ice cream almost every day after school.  Not just a little bowl- a huge bowl covered in chocolate syrup.  Surprisingly, my mom had made a salad.  Even my little brother who is addicted to sugary foods ate it!

Day 114: Traveling Food

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Fri, 08/18/2006 - 7:06pm.

I’m back from Chicago.  Traveling tends to lend itself to very unhealthy and sporadic eating.  Sonoma Diet?  What diet?  It’s hard to make good choices when you’re standing in Terminal A staring at: TCBY Frozen Yogurt, Taco Bueno, & McDonalds.  For the first time in a long time, I had McDonalds while waiting to board my flight.  It tasted blah and I felt so gross afterwards.  It only reinforced the fact that fast food is now disgusting to me.  One good thing is they actually print the nutritional information ON the wrapper/box.  That made for interesting conversation with my coworker (also having chicken nuggets & fries).  When I have kids, I will not have weekly trips to these fast food places.  Yikes!
