Day 85: Murphy's Law

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 07/20/2006 - 3:34pm.

The past few days have been even crazier than the week before.  Last week, my mom returned from Europe only to find that a few rooms in their house had flooded- carpets/baseboards gone, furniture/files/clothes everywhere, and drywall must be replaced.  Luckily my brother found it after a few hours so they were able to turn the water off before more damage occured.  This week, I have been slammed at work which again has resulted in working like crazy while forgetting to eat.  My one saving grace is that I am drinking water the entire time which helps with any cravings.

Day 84: Oprah & Sonoma Diet

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 07/19/2006 - 3:33pm.

My daily Sonoma Diet email today mentioned that the Sonoma Diet will be featured in Oprah’s upcoming O magazine this August.  The Sonoma Diet is being promoted as “one of America’s hottest weight-loss plans.”  I’m very interested in reading this artcle and hearing Oprah’s spin on it.  I’m hoping to learn even more about this diet and hear what others have to say.  Hopefully, I can pick up some more tips on how to better incorporate this diet into my daily life.  As a result of this media coverage, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about the Sonoma Diet on other programs and seeing more Sonoma Diet books in stores.

Day 83: Pizza cave in

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 07/18/2006 - 3:33pm.

The guys ordered pizza tonight since their new college football video game came out today.  I caved and had a slice.  I don’t think I have had pizza in months.  It was good but I am definitely not craving it and felt “blah” afterwards.  I decided to eat it because I was really hungry and it was sitting there already hot.  I admit that I gave into temptation by immediately satisfying my craving instead of taking time to prepare a healthier alternative.  Not the best move.  Afterwards, I was surprised at myself for doing this especially when I can resist temptation at work.  For instance, I have a jar of jellybeans sitting on my desk but I haven’t eaten a single one.   My coworkers come into my office all the time to feast on them.  For whatever reason, I can stare at jellybeans each day and not touch them but I can look at pizza for one second and eat it.

Day 82: What Exercise?

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 07/17/2006 - 3:32pm.

I did so well on my workout program last week.  However, I wasn’t able to exercise tonight nor this weekend.  We had a romantic mini-getaway this weekend to a nice hotel in town followed by a day at the races.  Neither of us had ever been and ended up getting a wonderful upgrade to a private table at the air-conditioned restaurant which included a huge buffet.  So long Sonoma diet!  I really didn’t eat that much and did have a big salad but I was sitting there for hours instead of our usual Saturday walk/run.  It seems that despite our good intentions of exercising, something keeps coming up.  I’ve mentioned previously that exercise isn’t specifically a part of the Sonoma Diet, but obviously helps.

Day 79: Dang it!

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Fri, 07/14/2006 - 5:23pm.

I weighed myself this morning and it says I have gained weight.  WHAT!?!  It makes me very sad and also angry.  I thought why then should I bother with all this exercising if it results in weight gain!?  This is very discouraging to me especially since I stepped up my exercising.  I haven’t made any changes in my diet either though I certainly haven’t been eating healthier.  I’m thinking that it really is the stress.

Day 77: Successful Exercise Program

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 07/12/2006 - 5:22pm.

Yea for me!  I managed to stick to my workout program by walking again tonight.  Let me clarify that when I say “walk” I mean super power walking.  This isn’t a stroll.  We took a different route so it wouldn’t get boring.  It is getting slightly easier each time we walk.  I have been sore this week.  My husband says it’s my body adjusting to the increased activity.  I have to admit that waking up feeling achy is very discouraging towards continuing with my goals of increased exercise.  I feel wonderful immediately after we walk a few miles but the next day I’m sore.  I a

Day 76: Healthy Snacking

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 07/11/2006 - 5:22pm.

On the food frontier, I have discovered a healthier snacking option as well: dried fruits.  My local store sells these in resealable packages.  My favorites are dried mango and apricots.  I keep these in my desk at work as an alternative to my coveted Goldfish.  When food shopping, I have become much more savy at looking not only at nutrition labels but at the ingredients.  I learned that the first ingredient listed is the biggest in quantity.  Also, sugar comes in other forms like corn syrup, fructose, sweetener, etc.  Another trick I learned is to avoid packaging that advertises “En

Day 75: Increasing my Exercise Program & Dumb Comments from the hubby

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 07/10/2006 - 1:36pm.

The Sonoma Diet agrees exercising will quicken benefits/weight loss though it is not an integral part of the diet.   I'm somewhat surprised exercise isn't highlighted in this diet.  But I am more determined to exercise multiple times a week instead of just weekends.  The fact that I have managed to walk a few miles each weekend at the nature preserve is amazing considering that I absolutely hate to exercise.  Since I have been consistent in this, I am adding to my workout program by increasing it to at least 3 times per week.   Nothing amazing, but I need to take small steps if I am really going to stick with this.

Day 71: Weighing In

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 07/06/2006 - 2:03pm.

Wow.  I can’t believe I have been on this Sonoma diet for over 70 days.  While I do feel healtheir overall, I feel like a poor representative of what the Sonoma Diet truly is.  I have not followed it to the letter and as a result, cannot boast about significant weight loss.  I have lost a few pounds and have become more trim and can exercise for longer periods.  The meal preparation is still a huge hurdle for me.  I am very spoiled in that I absolutely hate to spend more than 10 minutes preparing dinner.  To me, it is just not worth it if it takes more time to prepare the food than it does to eat it.

Day 70: Eating out additives

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 07/05/2006 - 2:02pm.

Back to work after the long weekend.  I mentioned that after my weekend indulgence of high-fat, processed food, I was craving healthier options.  Our group of friends ended up going to a Hibachi Restaurant last night.  I admit it felt weird having hibachi on the Fourth of July- delicious, but weird.  We started with the soup/broth and salad which tasted amazing.  I ordered teriakyi steak with vegetables.  The vegetables and rice were wonderful.  I thought I was eating so healthy since there were vegetables (carrots, peas, etc) in my rice as well.  The steak was a good source of protein after the dairy-full weekend.  I passed on dessert.
