Day 50: Sloooow Down

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 06/15/2006 - 11:26am.

My Sonoma Diet email today talked about slowing down when I eat in order to avoid overeating and to really savor my food.  It encourages me to eat at least one meal each day at the table.  I’ll admit that I cannot remember the last time I ate a meal at my dining room table.  We always eat on the couch using the coffee table as the kitchen table and usually watch TV as we eat.  Also, our dining room table is covered with stuff that needs to be thrown away or put up.  The good news is that we usually eat dinner rather slowly since we are relaxing after work.  Breakfast is another story however.

Day 49: Eggplant?

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Wed, 06/14/2006 - 2:03pm.

My Sonoma Diet email today was about eggplant.  My first reaction was “Eggplant?  Yuck.”  Then I realized I was using an old behavior pattern.  I have never had eggplant before.  How in the world could I know if I like it or not?  When I was young, I would very quickly say ‘no’ to new foods since I did not like change.  My parents would eventually give in after I tasted one bite.  This tasting usually consisted of a small nibble with my face squnched up and a predetermination of hating the food.  As a result, if people offered me a taste of their food, I would automatically say, “No thanks.”

Day 48: Progress!

My bellydancing classes have been going great.  I have also been eating much healthier.  I have lost 3 pounds according to my scale.  I will admit that I don’t follow my suggested Sonoma Diet meals at every meal (this is mostly due to my severe lack of cooking skills), but I have incorporated many of the Sonoma Diet tips into my daily routine.  I tend to use smaller plates for my meals and have asked myself, “Am I really hungry or just bored?”  I have started eating new, healthier foods.  I opt for salad for lunch or grilled fish for dinner.  In the past few months, I have had fast food once.  It tasted horrible.  I’m walking proof that even the most stubborn people can make drastic food changes over time.

Day 47: Old Habits Die Hard

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 06/12/2006 - 2:00pm.

After work, I ended up going over to my parent’s house for dinner.  We grilled hot dogs and had waffle fries while watching a movie.  During this, I realized how the foods I now consume have slowly changed as compared to what I was raised on.  My parents and brother still eat the same way: fast food for dinner a few times each week, soda with every meal, always have ice cream/cookies/cake for dessert.  Being at my old house, it was very easy to revert back to my old ways, not because I was hungrier, but it was an old pattern.  My parents instinctively handed me a soft drink, but I put it back and got water.  My Dad commented on this and decided to get water himself.

Day 46: Wedding Food

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Sun, 06/11/2006 - 1:59pm.

It’s wedding season!  We went to a wedding on Friday night and another Saturdy night which meant more highly-processed foods and cake and chocolate fountain.  The good thing is the Friday wedding mainly had fruit, berries, and cheese cubes.  I snacked on the fruit and berries mostly.  The Saturday wedding (an outdoor wedding in the summer in Texas, mind you!) served fajitas.  I figured that I had sweated enough throughout the ceremony to indulge.  I ended up drinking six bottles of water after this.  I only had one chicken fajita and a few chips, but may have outdone myself on the chocolate fountain.  While I did have a few strawberries, I don’t think this counts if they’re covered in chocolate.

Day 42: My Sexy Pink Pants

I think that I am retaining water right now, or I’ve gained muscle weight through my bellydancing class or walking.  This might explain how the scale says I have gained weight.  I have always heard that in order to lose water weight, you have to drink a lot of water.  I’m hoping this is the case and that the scale will soon go back in the other direction.  I keep reminding myself that it’s not how much you weigh, but how much you look like you weigh.

Day 41: Water, water everywhere

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Tue, 06/06/2006 - 8:19pm.

I have been drinking a lot of water throughout the day.  I usually have 3 bottled waters at work and have started ordering water with my meals.  It used to be that I would instinctively order a soft drink whenever we went out for dinner.  Not only am I being healthy, but I’m also saving a few bucks.  Our grocery bills have also significantly gone down since I drastically limited my sugar/snack food intake.  I used to buy a 24 pack of soft drink every week and sometimes twice in one week.  Add ice cream and cookies onto that grocery list, and I was spending a good amount of money on things that weren’t necessarily healthy.  My husband is also trying to eat healthier so we keep each other accountable.

Day 40: My hips don't lie

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Mon, 06/05/2006 - 8:18pm.

I began incorporating exercise into my Sonoma Diet plan.  This weekend, my famiy participated in the North Texas Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  We walked over 3 miles.  After mile 2, I started to feel it in my thighs.  This was actually a great sensation, and I imagined the fat burning away.  Nothing like fat burning for a good cause.  Right after the race, I went straight to my first bellydancing class.

Anybody who thinks bellydancing is merely shaking your hips is gravely mistaken.  I’ve danced for years, but this class kicked my butt (and hips and arms and legs).  I never

Day 37: Travel Food

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Fri, 06/02/2006 - 8:17pm.

I swayed from my diet at lunch by ordering a pizza sub.  This was bread, pepperoni, pizza sauce, and cheese.  Not terribly healthy but I did need to add more meat into my diet.  My diet has genreally been healthier since I have not been traveling for work as much.  However, I discovered that I will be traveling two weeks this month.  My company knows how to throw top notch events.  We always have the best food even at internal meetings.  This also means hotel room service and lots of restaurant food.  I have found that this is when I gain the most weight since I’m constantly eating/drinking and not working out.  Not to mention that some of my meals are in the airport so that means a choice of McDonalds or the Pretzel Place.  I doubt either are on the Sonoma Diet plan.

Day 36: Sweet Tooth

Submitted by BaylorBlondie on Thu, 06/01/2006 - 8:16pm.

I again proved that being very busy makes me forget to eat.  I do have my water bottle with me so I am drinking water while working, but I realized it was about 2pm and I still had not had lunch.  Today I had my first Dr. Pepper in three days.  That is huge for me!  My new personal goal is to get down to 1-2 Dr. Peppers per week.  In place of my daily caffine fix, I have been drinking a lot more water.  I feel healthier and eat smaller portions since the water fills me up.
