DAY 52: Alternative Soy
I got an email from the Zone Diet about substituting soy in my diet. The only time I have ever had soy was when my Mother bought me soy milk. My taste buds did not except soy milk as an alternative for cow milk. The taste is not there. The gag reflex was, but not the taste.
The Zone Diet refers to a study conducted in postmenstrual women. First dilemma with the study is that I am a male and no males were a part of the study. The study also indicates that only women with the highest intake were possibly positively affected. The study cannot confirm that there is a direct correlation between soy and healthy bones. The only thing I have found that has been confirmed in soy is that it is high in protein. I believe I would rather eat a steak.
This post may sound harsh, but that is not the intention. I have no problem eating healthy, but substitutes must taste good. I would rather eat smaller portions than eat something I don’t like.
That last statement really hits home. I am always trying to tell my friend to substitute vegetables for certain foods because they are healthier, and I am not willing to do it either. I guess that is human nature. Everyone has different taste buds and you can’t get someone to eat foods they do not like. Well, I guess that means that I am done with soy. I don’t need to convince myself I don’t want it. If I do not like the taste then that is the reason I do not eat soy.
