DAY 78: SUBSTITUTIONS

Submitted by Live to Eat or ... on Mon, 07/24/2006 - 11:28pm.

Throughout my life I have always had a food that some could say I was addicted to. It was not always the same thing, but has changed throughout my life. There have been three different foods and they are the most unhealthy items you can eat. Slowly I have phased two of the three out to about four or five times a year. This last one has not been that easy, but I am getting there.

My first food love was ice cream. I love sweets, but ice cream was my favorite snack or whenever I could get some. I love dairy, so it fit right in. All of my friends, family, as well as extended family kept it stocked in the freezer. Why say no when it feels so good to say yes. Well, college helped me phase ice cream out because of the expense, and I have never looked back. Till this day I rarely buy it, but this does not mean I don’t enjoy it.

My second food love was pizza. I have no clue how a big bread pie with fillings can taste so good, but it does. In junior high and high school I participated in a lot of group activities and pizza was the menu ninety percent of the time. My family loved pizza. Everyone loves pizza, but I enjoyed it too much. My self control always got the better of me and I always over ate. Finally in college I got tired of over eating pizza and I stopped buying it, and if it happened to be provided, I only ate one or at the maximum two pieces. This really helped my diet routine as well.

My last food love is chips and salsa. I could eat this snack for dinner every night. It did not help that I waited tables at a Mexican restaurant for over 3 years. The spicier the better is my motto, and I don’t just dip; I scoop. Half of my favorite is okay, but the chips make it very unhealthy. Instead of dropping this snack all together, I replace the chips with celery sticks. I can scoop the salsa with the celery and it becomes a healthy snack. Take a bite out of that.
