DAY 100: Japanese If You Please

Day 100 and I went out for Japanese food with my wife. I had read in the Zone Diet, that Japanese food can be a great fit for my eating style. I did not really remember what the Zone Diet had said about it, so I figured I would stick to sushi and a sashimi. We ordered an assortment platter, full of tuna, salmon, snapper and yellow tail full complimented with wasabi, ginger and light soy sauce. We also order sashimi, but I cannot remember which fish it was. We drank water, and we each had a sake carafe. The meal was delicious and we walked away content.

Several hours later, I decided to brush up on what the Zone Diet said about Japanese food and how it fits into my diet. It turns out that I did not eat exactly what was recommended, to stay in the Zone. The sashimi was perfect for the Zoned Diet, but the sushi was not. The rice that the sushi rests on is the killer as well as the soy sauce. I believe the sake is debatable since it is fermented rice, but it was probably out of the Zone Diet as well. The Zone Diet recommends adding vegetable to the mix as well to round out the meal. Next time I will order more vegetables and less sushi, but Japanese is not Japanese without a little sushi or sushi rolls.
